If your dog requires emergency veterinary care and you are unable to transport them to a veterinary clinic, NTDR may be able to assist with transportation.
We may also be able to provide financial assistance to low-income families whose dogs require urgent medical attention, helping ensure they receive the care they need when emergencies arise.
Please note that assistance is subject to volunteer availability and available funding.

What defines an Emergency?
- Difficulty breathing or choking
- Being hit by a vehicle or other major trauma
- Severe bleeding that won't stop
- Seizures, especially multiple or prolonged seizures
- Collapse, unconsciousness, or inability to stand
- Suspected poisoning or ingestion of toxic substances
- Heatstroke
- Severe allergic reactions (facial swelling, difficulty breathing)
- Persistent vomiting or diarrhea, especially with blood
- Bloated or swollen abdomen with unsuccessful attempts to vomit
- Difficulty giving birth or prolonged labor
- Broken bones or serious wounds
- Eye injuries
- Inability to urinate or obvious signs of extreme pain
What is NOT an Emergency?
- Routine vaccinations or wellness exams
- Nail trims or grooming needs
- Mild skin irritation or itching without severe discomfort
- Ear infections without severe pain or neurological symptoms
- A small cut or scrape that has stopped bleeding
- Limping while your dog is still comfortably walking and bearing weight
- A single episode of vomiting or diarrhea when your dog is otherwise acting normally
- Minor coughing or sneezing without difficulty breathing
- Fleas, ticks, or worms (unless your dog is showing signs of severe illness)
- Routine dental care or bad breath
- Chronic conditions that are stable and already being managed by your veterinarian
